This six-hour course teaches safe rifle handling and operation in a relaxed, instructor-led setting that emphasizes safety and skill. Students gain hands-on experience with basic loading, unloading, marksmanship fundamentals, and proper maintenance so they leave ready for further rifle training.

Topics covered include:  

  • A rundown on rifle selection & vocabulary
  • Loading & unloading
  • Fundamentals of shooting accurately
  • Maintenance & storage

  • Equipment: Rental firearm & ammunition included (students must use provided equipment)
  • Prerequisites: None (R1 achieved upon completion)

    • Closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing
    • Non-shattering prescription glasses (if applicable)
    • Lunch/snack, and a water bottle

    Highly recommend R1 – Basic Rifle. Anyone from a true beginner to a seasoned shooter will benefit from this course. Our instructor, Kevin Williams, was the greatest – very knowledgeable, friendly, and puts students at ease immediately with the #1 focus on safety. His fun style of teaching has you learning more than you’d ever expect and have you wanting more. Looking forward to attending R2 with Kevin in Fall 2025.

    I took this class with Dan and it was great! He creates a safe and fun environment and curates the material to the participants in the class. In the range we used an AR platform rifle, but in the classroom we learned about all of them. Which was very helpful in planning my next purchase. Great course and great instructor!     I took R1 with Kevin Williams. I found him very informative and learned a lot from him. I struggle with the rifle being left-eye dominant and right-handed. So he pushed me to fire lefty, which was the right decision. I highly recommend him for any rifle class he may offer.

    Again,another great class given by Dylan, R1 does exactly what it say’s, introduces you to the rifle platform. Dylan thoroughly went through the safety side of things, the differant parts of the firearm,differant types of actions, sights,ammo,ending with some range time and cleaning procedures.It seems to me, whenever a class is taught by Dylan, you always come out learning something, no matter your experience level. We are very lucky to have Whitebirch Armory and the instructors they hire,5 stars again. Looking forward to R2, and thanks a bunch, Paul
