How to Choose the Right Firearm

The right firearm depends on your intended use and experience level:

For home defense, many buyers choose a shotgun for stopping power or a compact handgun for easier storage and maneuverability. Concealed carry calls for something smaller, subcompact handguns in 9mm balance concealability with shootability. For recreational shooting and range days, comfort matters most, so mid-size handguns and .22 LR rifles are popular choices.

First-time buyers should start with something manageable. A 9mm handgun or .22 LR rifle offers low recoil and easy operation. More importantly, invest in training. Our classes help you build confidence and safe handling habits from day one.

Not sure what fits? Our rental program lets you test different firearms on our range before you buy.

Popular Calibers Explained

Here is a quick breakdown of the most common and popular calibers you can expect to run into while shopping for your firearms and accessories:

9mm: The most popular handgun caliber. Manageable recoil, affordable ammo, and solid self-defense performance. Great for new shooters.

.45 ACP: Heavier round with more recoil. Favored for home defense and by fans of classic American handguns.

.22 LR: Low recoil and inexpensive. Ideal for training, plinking, and introducing new shooters to firearms.

12 Gauge: The standard shotgun caliber. Versatile for home defense, hunting, and clay sports.

20 Gauge: Lighter recoil alternative to 12 gauge. Popular with smaller-framed shooters and youth hunters.

.223/5.56 NATO: The go-to for AR-platform rifles. Low recoil, flat trajectory, excellent for home defense and recreational shooting.

How to Buy Firearms Online

Purchasing online is simple. Federal law requires all firearm sales to go through a licensed dealer, so you can't ship directly to your home but the process is straightforward.
  1. Browse and select your firearm from our online inventory
  2. Complete your purchase online
  3. Pick up at our shop where we'll handle the transfer, or for out-of-state customers, we can ship to a licensed dealer near you
  4. Complete the background check via ATF Form 4473 and NICS (usually takes minutes)
  5. Take your firearm home after your check clears
Buying from another seller? Have them ship to us, and we'll process the transfer for you. Transfer fees apply.
